$ales & Lead$: Automation is killing your business
Do you want the truth?
One of the best sales and marketing approaches I have discovered over the years is... go right when everyone else is going left.
Uncle Warren Buffett says,
"Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful"
Similarly, when it comes to sales and marketing, in the wise words of Uncle Samson,
"Be active when everyone else is lazy, and lazy when everyone else is active."
Most people are not even at the mean. Most of our competitors are below average.
We are at a crossroads in the sales and marketing world
AUTOMATION - What started as a means to create efficiency and scale, has become a sad excuse for sales and marketing. We have gotten LAZY! Like the majority of the market is LAZY!
PREDICTION: AI will become the next LAZY person approached to create content. It will be generic and lack real creative expression and opinion.
We want shortcuts, magic systems, and automation to HACK the system. But the truth is, you can't hack your way to 1000 true fans. It's not that the work has gotten any "easier" it just becomes more efficient. But more efficiency and automation trick us into thinking that we can do less, and get more. However, the dichotomy is that as it becomes more efficient, the playing field gets leveled. And as the playing field is leveled, everyone is on equal footing. And as a result, the stakes get raised again. The Market Changes and the ever-present reality that
Hard work beats talent, when talent fails to work hard
prevails.
It's kind of like a college education...
Once upon a time, a degree separated you from the crowd. Now everyone has a college degree, and Tier 1 education is no different than Tier 2 education. As a result, we are seeing a rise in MBAs, and still, yet, MBAs pale in comparison to real entrepreneurs who have been playing the game for 10 years.
WHY? Because entrepreneurs are doing the real work. Because entrepreneurs are in the trenches, learning by doing. While everyone else is studying books that are outdated the moment they are written, you can be gaining ground on the competition.
The game today is literally all about who can show up consistently:
90% of social media users are consumers
9% are engages
And only a whopping 1% are creators.
If you want to be a top 1% producer, then you better start acting like it. You have to do the stuff that only the 1% do. For sales in today's landscape, that looks like creating content.
Best,
Samson
